Find the difference between rounding rows and totals
Compare mathematical rounding stages without choosing employment or billing rules.
Compare rounding per entry with rounding after aggregation before explaining a total difference. Keep the unrounded basis and do not use this arithmetic to choose a wage or billing policy.
Distinguish display precision from a changed value
A screen displaying 1.33 hours may still retain more precision internally. Rounding a stored value changes subsequent calculations; formatting only changes its display. Ask which operation the report and export perform. Clockify documents per-entry report rounding, while Harvest describes differences between rounded and unrounded reporting surfaces. Those examples demonstrate why the stage matters, not which rule your organization should adopt.
Reconcile two short fictional entries
Take two eight-minute entries. Rounded separately to the nearest 15 minutes, they total 30 minutes. Combined first, their 16-minute total rounds to 15 minutes. The raw total is 16. All three figures can arise from the same source entries under different transformations. Label the algorithm, interval and stage whenever you compare them.

Preserve the explanation with the file
Record the original total, transformed total and difference, plus whether the values are intended for display or downstream calculation. Avoid silently inserting a balancing row. If the recipient expects unrounded data, turn off the transformation through the documented report settings and retest a fictional fixture. If a governing rule is unclear, obtain appropriate advice before applying any rounding policy.
